In order to use the Geek Out V2 digital-to-analog converters (DAC) to play music on a Windows computer, the Light Harmonic Audio Driver will need to be installed.
This document provides the steps necessary to install version 2.23 of the driver in Windows 7, however the steps are similar in Windows Vista and Windows 8 along with Windows 10.
This document also provides the steps needed to install the Light Harmonic 2.29 Driver found on the end of this Guide labeled (setup.msi). You will need to install driver version 2.29 for use with any new devices such as
Geek Out V2
Geek Out V2+
Geek Out V2 infinity
Geek Out V2+ Infinity
Geek Out Vi Dac (Both SS and Tube)
Geek Wave models.
These steps are also applicable for version 2.20, 2.29, and any future driver released.
In order to install the Light Harmonic Audio Driver, the installation program must be downloaded from the LH Labs support page.
For the newest 3.26 Driver you can also download this Here, Please note that this driver will no longer support Windows XP and Windows Vista, To provide better support for Windows 10 platforms.
This Audio driver 2.29 can be downloaded Here if you still intend to use Windows XP or Windows Vista platforms.
Choose the Geek Out or Geek Pulse product support page and click the Windows Driver 2.23 link to initiate the file download.
A dialog box asking, “What do you want to do with LightHarmonic_DriverSetup_v2.23.zip?” will be displayed. Select Save as, specify Desktop as the save location, and click Save.
The LightHarmonic_DriverSetup_v2.23 zip file should now be visible on the computer desktop. The file will need to be extracted (unzipped) prior to use.
Right-click the file and the context menu will appear. Select Extract All… from the list of options.
A dialog box asking where to save the extracted files will appear. Click Extract to select the default location. Keep “Show extracted files when complete” checked.
When complete, the folder containing the unzipped installation file will be displayed.
Double-click the LightHarmonic_DriverSetup_v2.23 file to begin the setup. A file warning such as the following may appear. If so, click Run to continue.
The installation Setup Wizard will be displayed. Click Next to move on to the next step.
The Select Installation Folder dialog will be displayed. Click Next to accept the default location.
The Ready to Install dialog will be displayed. Click Install to begin the installation process.
If the following User Account Control dialog boxes are displayed, click Yes to continue with the install.
A second installation Setup Wizard dialog will appear. Click Next to continue onto the next step.
The setup program will search for the Geek Out or Geek Pulse device to see if it is currently connected to the computer. If it is not, the following dialog will be displayed.
Connect the Geek Out or Geek Pulse device to the computer and click Next. Once the setup program finds the device, the License Agreement dialog will appear. Click the check box to accept the License Agreement, then click Next to continue.
The Choose Install Location dialog will appear. Click Next to accept the default location and the installation will begin.
When the installation completes, click Next, then Finish in following dialog windows.
Light Harmonic Control Panel
Once the installation is complete, the Light Harmonic Control Panel utility will be available from the Windows Start Menu.
This utility can be used to check on the status of the connected Geek Out or Geek Pulse device, as well as the device firmware and audio driver versions installed.
Windows Default Sound Output
In order to play music through the Geek device, Windows needs to be told to use the device as the default sound output.
From the Windows Start Menu, open the Control Panel.
Click on Hardware and Sound, and then click on Sound.
Click on LH Labs Geek Out (or Geek Pulse if applicable), and then click Set Default at the bottom to make the device the default sound output.
